Yes. The WaterGuru SENSE does work in salt water pools.
If you have a salt water pool it is very important to watch the FC level which SENSE measures on a daily basis. In salt water pools, instead of adding chlorine to sanitize the pool, you add salt, and then a chlorine generator converts the salt to chlorine. FC levels for salt water pools should be maintained between 1 and 3ppm. pH levels should be kept at between 7.4 and 7.6ppm.
The FC readings from the SENSE are very accurate. If the SENSE is consistently telling you the FC in your salt pool is low or high, you should take steps to resolve it. Refer to the information below. Note, you many need to consult your pool professional or the manufacturer of your chlorine generator manufacturer for assistance.
- High FC - You should be able to lower your free chlorine by adjusting the settings on your chlorine generator. Also, consider increasing the chlorine generator pump runtime if you cannot maintain a high enough level of FC.
- Low FC - Rain over a period of several days or heavy pool use over multiple hours or days can decrease the FC level. You can choose to shock your pool, or Chlorine can be added to raise FC, but it is recommended you analyze your entire pool chemistry before proceeding. High levels of CYA can decrease FC in your pool.
