Why does the FC level in my pool rise in the Fall and Winter months? I use a Floating Chlorine Tablet Dispenser.
In the Summer months the sun is overhead in the sky
- When the pool water is exposed to direct sunlight, the FC depletes rapidly
- When the pool water is warmer, the FC depletes rapidly
- With multiple bathers in the pool, the FC depletes rapidly
In the Fall and Winter months, the sun is lower in the sky
- When the pool water is exposed to less direct sunlight, the FC will deplete less rapidly and may begin to rise
- When the pool water is cooler, the FC will deplete less rapidly and may begin to rise
- With fewer bathers in the pool, the FC will deplete less rapidly and may begin to rise
If you use a Floating Chlorine Tablet Dispenser in your pool, remember to do the following at the end of Summer:
- Adjust the baffles or vents at the bottom of the floater to prevent rapid dissolution of the tablets
- These baffles or vents should be fully open in the Summer
- In the Fall, you should partially close the baffles or vents which will reduce the amount of Chlorine dissolving and extend the life of the Chlorine tablets
- Refer to the instructions provided by the manufacturer of your Chlorine floater for how to adjust
- Refer to the SENSE FC levels to guide you on how far you should open or close the baffles or vents
- Reduce the number of Chlorine tablets in the floater
- In addition to adjusting the baffles or vents of the floater, you may also need to reduce the number of tablets you use in the dispenser
- Refer to the instructions provided by the manufacturer of your Chlorine floater for how many tablets to use depending on your geographic location, the season of the year, the water temperature, sunlight exposure and the number of bathers
- Refer to the SENSE FC levels to guide you on how many tablets you need in the dispenser
